OUR FARM

The Al Moudira Farm has been a passion project of the hotel owner and is quite unique in Egypt’s hotel landscape. Directly adjacent to the hotel and spread out over fifteen hectares facing the Valley of the Kings, the project was started in 2022 with the aim of being fully self-sustainable by 2026. The farm is overseen by our experienced agricultural engineer Taha who has a team of some 100 villagers that work both in the farm and that curate the vast gardens of Al Moudira. Our team has planted several hundred varieties, including an array of seasonal vegetables but also the local Hibiscus flower that makes our welcome drink and that is used for the natural dyes of our supplier Malaika Linens.

We at al Moudira have been consequently phasing out foreign products and now, depending on season, up to 80% of the produce used at The Courtyard Restaurant, The Ottoman Hall and Khan al Moudira are supplied from our farm, including milk for our homemade cheeses and ice-cream, wheat for our bread, and most of the products for our juice bar. Our farm is also home to many animals from cows, chickens, pheasants, pigeons, sheep and our resident donkeys and ostriches. For breakfast, our guests are served homemade yoghurt, cheese and ricotta made thanks to our buffalo cows.

Over Centuries, the fertile lands around the Nile River have provided the agricultural bounty that is on offer in Egypt and its rich culture of farming which we take pleasure in continuing, looking after the local land as well as offering our guests some of the best produce of Egypt. Our farm integrates the experience of traditional Nile farming in Egypt, using century old techniques and varieties. Out farm restaurant only offers products of the farm with stunning views on the mountains and some of our artisan workshops.
